The MAHI pilot at Te Kautuku is a globally innovative, cross-sector financing initiative which demonstrates the use of digital public infrastructure to directly fund regenerative land-use. This unique co-investment pilot in Aotearoa New Zealand combines public and private sector funding to support nature-positive actions and outcomes on whenua Māori.

Toha is creating an impact payment system for climate action and nature regeneration. This is the missing market infrastructure to enable funders to invest in verifiable impact, and frontline communities to get paid for work in service to nature.

This is one of three consultations in 2023 with major implications for climate change and land use policy in Aotearoa. The other two focus on New Zealand's Emissions Trading Scheme and its Permanent Forest Category. We urgently need a coherent approach to these policy instruments and consequently, Toha has treated these three submissions as an integrated whole
